The headline of the Times of Zambia "Zambian-China Forum" tells the story of NFC Africa Mining PLC again
On April 26th, the Times of Zambia, the most influential mainstream media in Zambia, told the story of NFC Africa Mining PLC ("NFCA" for short) in the headline of "Zambia-China Forum" - "COVID won't stop NFCA operations - The mining firm also vows not to retrench any of its 5,300 workers!" while in the feature page of finance and taxation on the same issue, the news that NFCA has paid a total of USD 200 million in taxes to the government since its establishment, and actively supported Zambia's economic development by practicing the concept of "China-Zambia cooperation and common development" was published.
With a weak health care system and a backward economy, Africa is the region affected seriously by the impact of COVID. In the face of the continued spread of the epidemic, socio-economic activities have suffered serious challenges and the development of Zambian industrial enterprises has also slowed down significantly. In order to inspire the nation to fight against the epidemic, rally the strength of the society and accelerate the economic recovery of the Zambia, the Times of Zambia launched a feature edition on combating COVID. NFCA funded by the Company insisted on "no production stoppage, no staff reduction and no pay cut", took the initiative to build the largest "Ark Community" for epidemic prevention and control in Africa to ensure normal production, and actively donated epidemic prevention and control materials to government departments, news media and social organizations, so as to try its best to safeguard the interests of the society, employee's families and investors; faced with the changes to the epidemic prevention and control policy in Zambia, the Company has taken the initiative to respond to the changes and all employees have signed a letter of commitment on epidemic prevention and control, so as to solidify "big closure, small isolation, same rules, same prevention and control" and make every effort to achieve the objectives of "no outbreak in clusters or no infection among the Chinese employees". The Company sought progress in production and operations while maintaining stability, which ensured the normal life of the families of more than five thousand employees during the epidemic, and was highly appraised by the Zambian society with their conducts.
On the premise of implementing the epidemic prevention and control measures in advance, CHILA NAMAIKO, a well-known journalist of the Times of Zambia, was assigned by the newspaper office, who drove 600 kilometers to NFCA for an integrated interview, wrote down what he saw, heard and thought with passionate writing style and pictures.
Mr. Chen Zhimin, Head of NFCA, introduced to CHILA NAMAIKO the core concept of "China-Zambia friendship and common development" and the core values of "loyalty and dedication" of NFCA, focusing on the basic situation that the Company actively assumed the corporate social responsibility, jointly promoted the economic recovery of Zambia during the epidemic, and introduced the progress of the Company's digitalized mine construction. The Zambian employees arranged the on-site reception and interpretation for each session. JOHN Mtonga, General Manager Assistant of the Company, Dean Mwrlwa, Manager of the Safety and Environmental Protection Department and Nachilala Mulunda, Executive Secretary, accompanied CHILA NAMAIKO throughout the interview.
"It is the most advanced safety warning education and training center for employees in Zambia's mining industry today!" At the first stop of the interview, CHILA NAMAIKO lit up his professional enthusiasm. "The health and safety of employees is the Company's core interest". In order to ensure the best education and training performance, NFCA has carefully designed and built the safety warning education and training center for employees, built the employee's safety culture publicity room, produced the feature programs on safety warning education for employees, integrated the Zambia's mining laws and regulations and the Company's safety regulations as one, invested funds and introduced the most advanced employee's safety VR virtual training system in Africa, and introduced common accident cases in mines to provide "real-life integration experience" training for employees. Listening to the introduction, CHILA NAMAIKO took the initiative to wear VR headset, sitting in the training experience bin, and he took off the VR headset five minutes later, with cold sweat emerging on his forehead, "It is too realistic, and the accident is so scary!"
In the first-aid training room of mine in the employee's skills training school of NFCA, Eric Chomba from the HR Department was holding the first-aid training course for emergency rescue. 20 front-line key Zambian employees were divided into three groups, with the three plastic anthropomorphic dummy models in the center, and seriously developed simulated first-aid competition in the form of group under the guidance of the teacher. The mine emergency rescue team of NFCA had won the first place twice in the mine first-aid competition in Zambia; in the mine blasting classroom, experts from the Safety and Environmental Protection Department were providing professional "training" for 25 front-line employees. Now, 850 employees in NFCA have obtained first-aid certificate and 220 employees have obtained blasting certificate.
In the computer training classroom, Austin from the HR Department was teaching 30 trainees in a training session on the EPR management system. The trainees were attentive and focused their spirit on the projection screen. As requested by CHILA NAMAIKO, he interviewed Henry Shantolo, who graduated from here and is currently working on the mining front in the down-hole trackless equipment simulator training classroom, "Our training simulator is the most advanced in the world and our mines are also the most advanced in Zambia! I can conduct mining operations in a 1000-meter deep well by operating the equipment remotely on the surface, and I love my job!" Henry Shantolo proudly told the journalist. In the production control center of the southeast ore body, Fan Hengda, a Chinese employee, and his Zambian companion systematically introduced to the journalist the mining methods, equipment management and process control of NFCA.
The field employee in Sandvik said," I love NFCA!"
JOHN Mtonga, General Manager Assistant of the Company of NFCA, introduced "grandly" the integrated service center for miners to the journalist, "Miners who have finished their work will change their clothes and take a bath, and their work clothes will be handed over to the laundry center for processing at the same time, so that they can wear clean work clothes when going to work the next day. It is the best service center for miners in Zambia by now!" Dean Mwrlwa, Manager of the Safety and Environmental Protection Department, invited CHILA NAMAIKO to the site clinic at the mine site. Musonda, the doctor on duty at the site clinic, enthusiastically introduced the miners' treatment process to the journalist and showed him the reception room, treatment room and medical treatment room ......
Because of his work, CHILA NAMAIKO has basically visited all the major mines in Zambia, but what he saw and heard today still moved him deeply. In front of the blue sky and green land and the white derricks, he took the initiative to invite the doctors of the site clinic and the Company's accompanying staff to take a photo together, "NFCA, it's great! "
