Governor of Province de la Lualaba Arrived at Lualaba Copper Smelter S.A.S to Inspect and Guide the Epidemic Prevention

On May 26, 2020 local time, MUYEJ, Governor of Province de la Lualaba of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, led a team to arrive at Lualaba Copper Smelter S.A.S (hereinafter referred to as Lualaba Copper Smelter) to inspect and guide the epidemic prevention and control. Accompanied by the Head of Finance Department of Province de la Lualaba, Head of Provincial Environment Department, Head of Provincial Labor Department, and Office Director of Provincial Mining Department, the Governor conducted the inspection.
 

Symposium Site
 
At the symposium, Yang Wei, General Manager of Lualaba Copper Smelter, welcomed the visit of the team led by Governor MUYEJ, and extended thanks to the Government of Lualaba for its long-term support for the Company, and reported the epidemic prevention, production guarantee and stabilization, operation situation, and production and life of Congolese employees stationed at the plant, as well as issues to be coordinated and settled by the Provincial Government to the Inspection Team.

Governor MUYEJ spoke highly of the rapid response and effective epidemic prevention and control by Lualaba Copper Smelter and hoped that the Company would support the Provincial Government’s epidemic prevention policy and economic development as always, enhance the government-enterprise cooperation and mutual information communication and become an important force for joint fight against the epidemic. At the same time, he hoped that the Company would positively adapt to the “new normal” of the epidemic, and make preparation for long-term fight against the virus, so as to ensure the continuously steady development of economy and people’s livelihood.
 

Inspected the Storage Yard of Crude Copper

 
Soon afterwards, the Inspection Team paid a field visit to the Storage Yard of Crude Copper of Smelting Plant, Production Dispatch and Command Center, River Dam of Water Intake Engineering, “Cabin Community” and other places of Lualaba Copper Smelter and learned about the epidemic prevention and control, production and operation and production and life of Congolese employees stationed at the plant of Lualaba Copper Smelter in detail. At the Storage Yard of Crude Copper, Governor MUYEJ was happy to see the smooth and steady operation of smelting production of Lualaba Copper Smelter. He told the accompanying workers that “the Central Government requires us to stabilize the economy during the anti-epidemic period, and we will have confidence in fighting the epidemic only if the major project of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is guaranteed. We should take more pictures about copper products in Lualaba Copper Smelter, and I will make a report to the Prime Minister.”

In the campsite of Congolese workers in the “Cabin Community”, Governor MUYEJ told the Congolese employees that “I am very pleased to see you enjoy the excellent working and living conditions here. For our country, this project is very important. For the Company, stabilizing the production is very important. For the employees, guaranteeing the work is very important. I hope that all employees cherish the current post, work hard, stay at the site and stabilize the production.” In addition, Governor MUYEJ accepted the interview by the local well-known media on the spot. He said that the practices of Lualaba Copper Smelter were consistent with the thoughts of the Provincial Government, and the Provincial Government recognized the epidemic prevention by Lualaba Copper Smelter, and praised the measures taken to guarantee the production and stabilize the production during the epidemic period, and the Government would continue to provide strong support for Lualaba Copper Smelter Project in future.

On the same day, Lualaba Copper Smelter donated 6,000 disposable masks, 800 N95 masks, 100 protective suits and other epidemic prevention materials to the Government of Province de la Lualaba, which expressed the confidence and determination of the company in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the local government for concerted fight against the epidemic. Governor MUYEJ accepted the donation on behalf of the Provincial Government.
