From December 7th to 8th, the 9th International Roundtable of Multinational Corporations’ Leaders &Forum on the “One Belt and one Road” Cooperation and Development was held in Beijing. During the meeting, Zhou Tienong, former vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and former vice chairman of the NPC, awarded Zhang Keli, General Manager of the holding group of CNMCL, the “2016 International Leadership Award for Multinational Corporations." Zhang said, "The award embodies the hard work and contribution of the old leaderships and all cadres and workers of CNMC. It is a recognition and encouragement for our achievements in “going out” over the years, and provides stimulation and power for our deep involvement in the construction of “the Belt and Road” and the promotion of international capacity cooperation.”
During the meeting, General Manager Zhang Keli was also invited to make a speech entitled “Building Dreams along the Belt and Road, and Promoting Inclusiveness and Mutual Progress”. In the speech, Zhang reviewed the CNMC’s course of “going out” of over 30 years and its journey with the construction of the Belt and Road in recent years, and expressed gratitude for the support and help from all sectors of the society. He said, “The Belt and Road” strategy is of great wisdom and vision that adapts to this great era, and it is the contemporary embodiment of the concern for the world as one and the concept of peaceful development. In its practice of the “going out” strategy, the CNMC acting while thinking, continuously deepens its understanding of “the Belt and Road” strategy. Zhang shared with the guests the feelings and experiences from the Group’s participation in the construction of “the Belt and Road” in recent years: “As a highly internationalized industry, the development of mining demands joint ventures and cooperation, as well as mutual trust and assistance, in order to release the value of the host country’s resource; in the infrastructure construction field where the parties are intensively involved, only the export of technologies and equipment can meet the need of the host countries to upgrade their industry; in the process of balancing the interests of all parties, it is necessary to take responsibility and cooperate with others to get the largest partner support." He stressed that if mistakes and setbacks are to be avoided during "going out," it is as important as improving the internal and external qualities of the corporate itself to follow the rules and do what one is capable of. Corporate needs to optimize its selection of regions, business and objects, and do what they are familiar and confident with, so as to effectively avoid the risk of development and advance steadily and far. He said that CNMC will continue its pursuit of “openness and inclusiveness, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation”, strengthen friendly cooperation with all parties concerned, and give full play to its advantages in management, technology and skilled workers team, so as to provide support for and show its strength in the construction of “the Belt and Road”, and strive to show the Group’s sincerity in promoting development and its readiness and ability as a Chinese corporate to make achievements in the world’s longest and most potential belt of cooperation.
CNMC ranks the 386th place among the world's top 500 multinational companies, and the 32nd place of China's top 100 manufacturing enterprises. As one of the earliest enterprises to open up and one of the most market-oriented corporate, CNMC is a pioneer to “go out” of the non-ferrous industry and of Chinese enterprises. As early as 1983, the Group has gone out of the country to seek opportunities for development. It started from foreign project contracting, and gradually expanded to the development of resources, construction, and related trade and services. It has now created a “whole industry chain” that covers geology, mining, smelting, processing, construction, equipment, trade, and logistics. At present, CNMC's business is in more than 80 countries and regions, including more than 20 countries along “the Belt and Road”, and provides products of more than 40 non-ferrous metals. In particular, its key target regions during the over 30 years of “going out” are highly in line with the list of countries along “the Belt and Road”, and therefore its successful experience with “going out” and first-mover advantages can be fully applied to the construction of “the Belt and Road.”
The conference was co-sponsored by China International Council for the Promotion of Multinational Corporations and the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the United Nations Environment Program, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the United Nations Global Compact and the United Nations University for Peace. Zheng Wantong, Former Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, President of the China Association for the Promotion of International Multinational Corporations, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Roundtable of Multinational Corporations’ Leaders, attended the meeting, and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon sent a congratulatory letter. A total of more than 290 guests attended the meeting, including ambassadors to China, leaders of industry and commercial associations and home and abroad investment promoting agencies, and executives and well-known entrepreneurs from over 200 Chinese and foreign top 500 multinational companies.
