Tao Xinghu, Chairman of the Board of CNMCL, Win Titles of Meritorious Leaders in Overseas Resource Development Strategy for China Nonferrous Metals Industry

“Award Ceremony of Meritorious Enterprises and Leaders in Overseas Resource Development Strategy for China Nonferrous Metals Industry as well as Summit Forum of Risk Prevention against Overseas Resource Development and Control for China Nonferrous Metals Industry” were held in Beijing on September 9, 2015, supported by China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and sponsored by periodical office of China Nonferrous Metals. CNMC has been granted with titles of Meritorious Enterprises. And, Tao Xinghu, Chairman of the Board and President of CNMCL has been granted with titles of Meritorious Leaders, showing industrial recognition towards CNMC and CNMCL “Going Global” of China’s nonferrous metals industry.
Gu Xiulian, Vice Chairwoman of the 10th Session of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee presented and made important speeches, and granted prizes for the honored winners and enterprises. She put forward 4 hopes concerning industrial strategy of “Going Global” in the near future: Firstly, hope nonferrous metals enterprises to further exert advantages, more actively output equipment and technology globally, and keep moving towards upstream and downstream of the industry chain. Secondly, hope relevant enterprises to avoid political, social, safety and environmental risks etc. during “Going Global”. Thirdly, hope nonferrous metals enterprises to keep innovating cooperation modes, combine China’s advantages and strategic directions with actually foreign conditions, and flexibly adopt “Double-win and Multi-win” cooperation modes. Fourthly, hope nonferrous metals enterprises to actively exert social responsibilities, pay attention to local employment, environmental protection, infrastructure and people’s livelihood etc., and realize joint development with local social communities.
Chen Quanxun, State Department Counselor and Chairman of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association stressed in the Award Ceremony speeches, if the nonferrous metals industry would become vital forces in stabilizing growth and adjusting structure, one important thing was to actively respond to development strategy of “One Belt and One Road” put forward by China so as to facilitate “Going Global” for China’s major equipment and advantageous capacity, realize mutual benefit and win-win results, and win more and much longer development space. He called on that “Going Global” enterprises should keep a leading role and fully show the charm of Chinese enterprises in global stage; comprehensively enhance international operation level of the industry, and create more excellent performances for building a strong country in nonferrous metals industry.
Yan Diyong, Deputy General Manager of CNMC, also took part in the ceremony and made a special report named Trans-cultural Management and Coping with Overseas Merger and Acquisition by Central Enterprises, systematically expounding measures, experiences and lessons in overseas trans-cultural management by CNMC. It was pointed out in the Report that CNMC had attempted resource development channels such as exchanging resources with projects, risk prospecting cooperation, equity investment, setting up overseas economic trade and cooperative zones; but the most important channels and methods were acquisitions and investments mainly featured by self-investment, self-construction, self-operation and self-management. In recent years, CNMC had set up production entities such as mines and smelting plants in overseas, and formed regional industrial clusters. Chinese and foreign workers had been in long-term communication with each other, with wider coverage and deeper degree. CNMC had been insisting the principle of “recognizing differences, reinforcing communications and mutual integration” during “Going Global”; accumulated experiences in trans-cultural management such as acquisition and reorganization, internal operation after acquisition, building harmonious external environment etc., and obtained positive effects.
During the meeting, the participating enterprise leaders, experts and scholars, and management consulting institutions fully recognized and spoke highly of CNMC’s successfully developed projects in Zambia, Mongolia, Burma, Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kinshasa), and Tajikistan etc., as well as layout priority in countries along “One Belt and One Road”. CNMC’s successful measures had been numerously cited in speeches and reports, the aspects concerning overseas investment, project construction, risk control, and cultural integration etc. During communications with Yan Diyong, the Deputy General Manager, the participating enterprises of nonferrous metals industry hoped to deeply understand CNMC’s overseas resources development; with smooth communications and seeking cooperation, make contributions to jointly build a strong country in nonferrous metals industry.
According to information, the selection of Meritorious Enterprises and Leaders started in September 2014. After preliminary selection, final selection and publicity etc., 15 leaders such as Tao Xinghu, Chairman of the Board and President of CNMC had been granted with titles of “Meritorious Leaders in Overseas Resource Development Strategy for China Nonferrous Metals Industry”; 15 enterprises such as CNMC had been granted with titles of “Meritorious Enterprises in Overseas Resource Development Strategy for China Nonferrous Metals Industry”.
CNMC ranks the 390th in “Fortune Global 500” 2015. It has been remarkably featured by export-oriented operation since its establishment. During 32 years of international operations, it has been insisting “Three Operations Promoted Simultaneously” including resource development, project contracting, and international trade. A special international operation mode has been explored through mutual pushing and complement in various industries. It has 83 overseas contributive enterprises of all levels, nearly 20 thousand workers in overseas contributive enterprises, including 15 thousand of foreign workers, covering geological prospecting, mining and dressing and smelting, engineering design, construction, trade and logistics etc. Graduated from Beijing University of Iron and Steel Technology (currently named as University of Science and Technology Beijing, the Class of 1977 majoring mining), Tao Xinghu is a professorate senior engineer, an expert enjoying special government allowances of the State Council, with the title of Influential Leader in the 8th Selection of China’s Nonferrous Metals Industry. He has been working in Africa for 13 years since he became permanent in Africa in 2002. He participated into and took charge of major resource development projects in Zambia and Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kinshasa), which have become landmark projects in mining cooperation between China and Africa. He has taken an important part in Sino-African cooperation as a witness and a pusher.
