Zhang Bo, Chairman of the Trade Union of Machinery, Metallurgy, and Building Material Industries of All China Federation of Trade Unions Paying an Investigative Visit toEnterprisesof CNMCL in Zambia

From February 13 to 16, 2014, accompanied by Xu Shusen, vice secretary of CPC Committee for CNMC, the holding group of CNMCL, Zhang Bo, chairman of the Trade Union of Machinery, Metallurgy, and Building Material Industries of All China Federation of Trade Unions, paid an investigative visit to CNMCL-invested enterprises in Zambia. 

 
On the afternoon of February 13 and at Lusaka Office, chairman Zhang Bo and vice secretary Xu Shusen paid an official call at Zhou Yuxiao, Chinese ambassador to Zambia, and other embassy officials such as the counsellor and military 
attaché. The group had a cordial and friendly talk. 
 
From February 14 to 16, chairman Zhang Bo and vice secretary Xu Shusen paid field investigative visits to CNMC Luanshya, NFCA, SMLZ, and CCS. 
 
On the afternoon of February 15, vice secretary Xu Shusen presided over a meeting on protection of the rights and interests of Chinese employees and a meeting on the strategy for dealing with the trade union of the host country. At the former meeting attended by representatives of Chinese employees, some 10 employee representatives from enterprises of CNMCL in Zambiaintroduced their own enterprises’ performance in involving employees in corporate management, carrying out subsequent academic education, and materializing treatments for employees in wage payment, vacation, and welfare. They also aired their views and suggestions about a number of issues, including establishment of the job rotation mechanism, network building, schooling for children of overseas employees, and payment of endowment premium for publicly recruited workers.

Chairman Zhang Bo spoke highly of the glorious achievements made by enterprises of CNMCL in Zambia and fully affirmed the efforts made by overseas enterprises under the leadership of the trade union of CNMC to protect the rights and interests of Chinese employees. He points out that the successful practice of CNMC in handling the relations with the trade union of the host country set an important and positive example for the Chinese enterprises “already going out” and “about to go out.” During his speech, vice secretary Xu Shusen fully affirmed the report, opinions, and suggestions given by the employee representatives. He also emphasized that, through over ten years’ practice,enterprises of CNMCL in Zambia have summed up a complete set of mature experience and practice of soundly dealing with the trade union of the host country. These are to be further publicized and implemented in future, enabling the entire group to see the whole picture, the overseas enterprises to completely grasp the ideas, and the governmental departments fully understand our situation. 
 

The investigative visit coincided with China’s traditional festival, Lantern Festival. On the evening of February 14 and 15, chairman Zhang Bo and vice secretary Xu Shusen attended the Lantern Festival Get-together at CNMC Luanshya and the Lantern Festival Evening party at NFCA. They spent the happy hours with the enterprises’ cadres, ordinary employees, and their family members, enjoying the colorful fireworks and wonderful shows given by Chinese and Zambian employees. Chairman Zhang Bo brought to the enterprises’ cadres and employees New Year greetings and good wishes from the Trade Union of Machinery, Metallurgy, and Building Material Industries of All China Federation of Trade Unions. On behalf of CNMC leadership, vice secretary Xu Shusen presented New Year blessing to the cadres and workers who remained at their posts and worked hard overseas on Spring Festival and their family members. He encouraged them to make persistent efforts and make new and greater contribution to complete fulfillment of all the production and marketing tasks in 2014. 
 
Chiefs of the relevant departments of CNMC and chiefs of the trade unions of the investing enterprises from China took part in the investigative visit and had interview with employee representatives.
