At 10 a.m. on March 24, 2024 (Democratic Republic of the Congo time), the " Mabende Digital Energy Project Signing Ceremony" was successfully held at the headquarters of China Nonferrous Mining Hong Kong Holdings Limited in Lubumbashi. Chen Zhimin, Chairman of China Nonferrous Mining Hong Kong Holdings Limited, and Wang Fangqing, General Manager of the joint venture company with China Sixth Metallurgical Construction Co., Ltd. (Democratic Republic of the Congo), signed on behalf of both parties. This marked China Nonferrous Mining Hong Kong Holdings Limited as the first Chinese mining company to take substantive steps in exploring solutions to alleviate the local mining area's power supply shortage.
The project will innovatively integrate photovoltaic power generation with CNMC Huachin Mabende Mining SA's existing local grid and diesel generator through a microgrid system, fully utilize the abundant solar energy resources in the Lubumbashi region where the company is located. It will annually supply 10.91 million kWh of electricity, ensuring a stable power supply for the company's normal production operations. Calculations show that upon completion, the project can reduce carbon emissions by 119.32 tons per year.
This is another endeavor by China Nonferrous Mining Hong Kong Holdings Limited to incorporate the green development concept into the entire process of managing projects along the "Belt and Road". As a leader in practicing green, low-carbon, circular, and sustainable production methods overseas, the company better aligns the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, supports the green development of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and contributes to creating a harmonious and livable shared home for humanity.
